Our Investigations

Our investigation process focuses on understanding the spirits that walk this Earth and why they stay tethered to where they are at. We first have our professional investigators map out the site to be sure there are no physical or metaphysical hazards. This is always done in pairs due to concerns about safety. Once the site is deemed safe for investigation, junior investigators join their mentors on site and begin standard research procedures.

If possible, IPO tries to help the spirit find its way beyong this realm, but that is not always the case. The spirit's atonomy and level of danger play importants role when deciding whether or not a specter should be left to their own devices. In general, Egregores (spirits born through powerful emotion rather than human death) pose a risk to researchers and the public and must be contained for research and released at a later day. Junior investigators are not brought on site if there is concern one or more Egregores are present. In cases where more than one Egregore is present, IPO tries to collaborate with the nearest paranormal investigation group due to safety concerns. Much like live people, human spirits tend to vary in personality and demeanor, so they are dealt with on a case by case basis.

Closed Investigations

Harmony Heights Mental Institution

Harmony Heights Mental Institution opened on May 17, 1872 in Suncroft Virginia. Harmony Heights was one of several poor houses within the state of Virginia at the time. Within its walls, it housed orphans, the elderly, the physically and mentally disabled, vagrants, and criminals. The institution closed on December 27, 1976. Unlike some investigations into sites like Harmony Heights, witnesses state that the spirits of Harmony Heights tended to be helpful to guests within the space. There are several known spirits that exist within Harmony Heights, including: Nurse Allison Carlson who walked the second and third floor, Terrance Navarro who mainly walked through the kitchens, Ewan Bell and Alice James who walked on the second floor and mainly remained within the children's spaces. Investigators Jane Stone and Dr. Hannah Jensen alongside a few junior investigators began researching and cataloguing the spirits.

While at Harmony Heights, investigators found that most spirits were content on continuing their afterlife in Harmony Heights. This is due to the bond they have created with Harmony Heights's current owner, Marley Higgins, who has made it a point to make the spirits feel welcomed. This includes upkeeping the institution, playing music for the spirits, and coming in to visit the spirits during the day. However, as is common with child spirits, Ewan and Alice do not seem to know what is going on, only that they like Marley. Due to the spirits' contentment, IPO has decided to allow the spirits to remained to Harmony Heights on the condition that we are allowed to come back and do a secondary check if the ownership of Harmony Heights ever changes.

The Patricia Moore Case

The Patricia Moore investigation began on August 1, 2025. This investigation is a dual effort between the Investigators of Paranormal Occurances (IPO) and People Investigating and Researching the Unkown (PIRU), as well as Dr. Angela Sycamore, who willingly came out of retirement due to this case. Patricia Moore was a 22 year old graduate of Midstate University's Parapsychology program. She graduated Magna Cumlade on May 14, 2022. From what is currently understood about the investigation, Patricia Moore began a solo expedition in Peace Grove, Illinois. Her mother, Heidi Moore, states that Patricia left home at the beginning of July 2022. Heidi states she communicated with Patricia often at the beginning of Trisha's expedition. However, around early August 2022, contact with Patricia became less and less. After reporting her daughter missing in October of 2022, police began to investigating into Patricia's disappearance. In December 2023, police stopped the investigation and named the case a cold case. After exhausting all other options, Heidi reached out to Dr. Angela Sycamore about the case who in turn reached out to IPO.

Due to the nature of the case, not all details can be shared at this time. The investigation has been temporarily shelved due to the increasing health issues of Dr. Angela Sycamore. IPO plans on continuing the case as soon as possible.
